A princess and a ninja run from door to door giggling and shouting. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, the Brockport townhomes held an event as a safe alternative to trick-or-treating. Kids dressed in costumes went from door to door to receive candy from residents. In the Townhomes Community Center, a first year Living Learning Community, Teachers of Tomorrow, organized and ran crafts and activities.

The cool fall evening was the perfect weather for families from the community to take a stroll through the townhomes. Many were decorated for the Halloween season. Townhome resident Emily Pierpont enjoyed handing out candy.

“My roommates and I sat with our door open, did homework and listened to Disney Halloween songs,” Pierpont said. “It was really fun to watch the kids in their cute little costumes and give out candy.”

There were smiling faces all around. From the arts and crafts in the Community Center to the candy, the event had a ton of activities for kids. Assistant Vice President for Planning, Assessment and Retention Dr. Sara Kelly came with her family.

“Townhouse trick or treat is great! I love seeing our students. It’s a fun fall activity, and the kids love it,” Kelly said.

Associate Director for Operations and Finance Carl R. O’Conner reflected on the event’s outcome and engagement with the community.

“We had about 75-80 community members attend, with around 72 townhome residents participating in the event to hand out candy to children,” O’Conner said. “We hope to continue this wonderful tradition in the years moving forward. The Townhomes trick or treating event truly showcases how SUNY Brockport can be a college engaged with its community.”

Since 2008, the SUNY Brockport townhomes have been providing a worry-free space for families to create spooky memories together.
