Brockport Athletics announced to students of SUNY Brockport that the eight-month renovation process of Tuttle North will be underway starting on May 15, 2026. The renovations include updates all around Tuttle North to invest and modernize the athletic complex.

“The primary goal of the Tuttle North renovation is to modernize our facilities in a way that enhances the daily experience of Brockport students while also supporting academic programs,” Brockport Athletics Director Erick Hart said. “The initial phase of the project will create new team locker rooms and an athlete-only weight room designed to improve training efficiency, team cohesion, and overall wellness. More broadly, the renovation is part of a long-term investment in the Tuttle Complex to bring a decades-old facility up to modern standards, improve functionality, and better align with the needs of today’s students and academic programs.”
According to Brockport Athletics, “Brockport’s Tuttle Renovation project will immediately impact the daily lives of Brockport’s 750+ student-athletes. The renovation includes a brand new state of the art athlete-only weight room as well as new locker rooms and a multi-purpose turf facility to service Brockport’s varsity athletic teams.” These updates will begin in May post-graduation, go all throughout summer and work into the fall semester.
The three main spaces of updates include the athletic weight room, the men and women’s team locker rooms and a new turf facility. During this process both locker rooms will be closed as work will begin in the Tuttle North laundry room and move its way through the hallways into the general locker rooms, shower rooms and bathrooms. The construction will also result in a loss of 30 parking spots on the south end of T-Lot.
“During the construction process, there will be some temporary adjustments. For example, general locker rooms will be unavailable during portions of the renovation, and temporary locker room accommodations will be provided for impacted teams,” Hart said. “We have worked closely with campus partners to minimize disruption. While there may be short-term inconveniences, the long-term outcome will significantly enhance the daily experience for student-athletes and coaches through improved spaces for training, preparation, and team development.”
The athletic weight room renovation will be a brand-new state of the art weight room where student-athletes to work and train for competition with the help from Brockport Strength and Conditioning Staff. This updated weight room will have turf and slam walls for sport specific training that will be connected to team locker rooms.

“It’s exciting. I feel like the weight room does need to change a little bit, but it sounds awesome,” Brockport Football senior defensive back Malik Kelly explained about the incoming weight room. “Having a bigger and better weight room than we have now will only make everything better.”
The new 5,900 square foot facility will include brand new weight racks, free weights, in-laid platforms, and controllable sound to create a championship atmosphere for athletes to work in. It’s all in the works for the end goal of meeting the needs of the 750-plus student athletes and 24 Brockport squads.
“Having a brand new state of the art weight room will be great for all athletes,” Brockport Football head coach Jason Mangone said. “We as coaches always want the best for our student-athletes and this is an example. One of the advantages for the for the programs with bigger numbers means we can have more athletes lifting together rather than having more times for them to lift.”
“Having a strength and conditioning program and coach is a huge asset to a program so the fact that we’re building a brand new facility with state-of-the-art equipment and up-to-date branding and SNC requirements will only help us,” Brockport Women’s Basketball head coach Corinne Jones said. “I think this new addition of a weight room will help us win games, recruit high-quality student athletes and overall enhance the experience for our current student athletes.”
To go along with the weight room, the locker rooms will be updated as well. According to Brockport Athletics, “Brockport’s brand new locker rooms will give our student-athletes a place to call home and will provide a sense of pride and comradery off the competition surface,” as the renovations include locker security and an overall place to strengthen team bonds.

One of the biggest features of the new locker rooms is locker security as master keys will be used in each locker room and will be designed to secure all athletes and teams belongings while enhancing the athlete’s experience.
“It’s better for the future and for more recruits to come,” Kelly said about the new locker rooms. “It’s better for athletics overall. It’s an upgrade, the locker room brings attention so that’s definitely a big deal.”
These locker rooms will be provided year-round for teams to build stronger bonds and a better atmosphere, but teams participating in the fall and winter will have to wait to use these new locker rooms as work will still be in full effect.

“We love to have nice things in athletics, so a new locker room is going to be great for student athletes to have a modern look,” Coach Jones explained. “We may lose a little bit of space, but I think it makes up for it with better lockers, some security, a centralized shower that our athletes can use. And, in the meantime, we’ll be housed in a different location of Tuttle while we remain patient for our new locker room.”
The last feature that will be updated in Tuttle North is the brand new turf facility Brockport will be adding. “This versatile, all-weather facility features a full turf playing surface ideal for a variety of sports, providing year-round training opportunities for Student-athletes,” Brockport Athletics stated. Some new features the facility includes are netting systems for baseball and softball cages for better skill development along with new team areas, storage areas and spaces for stretching, mobility and strength training while creating a community environment.
“That’s fire, that’s going to be perfect,” Kelly said about the turf renovation. “When it’s cold, snowing, sports like soccer, football, lacrosse, we could be inside instead of having to get sick and worry about the cold. I feel like this total renovation is going to be great.”

As the project begins on the day of graduation, all student-athletes who have items and belongings in the locker rooms will have to clean it all out a week before on May 9, 2025. As both men and women’s locker rooms are closed, a contemporary area for locker rooms will be created for teams during the renovation process.
Despite construction, the fall semester will continue to host classes, varsity and club practices, swim and gym, BCSD practices and swim lessons in Tuttle North as the pool will reopen in the fall after construction during the summer. The ultimate goal of the renovation, despite potential inconveniences during the process, is to make academics and school life better for all students with little to no disruption.
“This renovation goes well beyond athletics—it is a transformational project for the entire campus community,” Hart said. “From a student life perspective, it improves the overall campus experience by creating high-quality, modern facilities. The project also supports student wellness through better training and recreation spaces. Additionally, the project reflects Brockport’s commitment to investing in facilities that support recruitment, retention, and student success—ensuring that all students, not just athletes, benefit from a more vibrant and functional campus environment.”
The completion date for this project is still to be announced, but for any questions on the renovations, please contact the Brockport Athletics Department or the Office of Facilities and Planning.
