It’s that time of the semester again — the weather is getting warmer, summer break is on the horizon and it’s time to start preparing for the upcoming semester.
Here’s everything you need to know about registering for fall classes.
What is the registration schedule?
Students can begin registering for classes on Monday, April 13. The registration schedule goes as follows:
- Monday, April 13, through Wednesday, April 15: seniors, Honors college students and matriculated graduate students
- Thursday, April 16 through Monday, April 20: juniors
- Tuesday, April 21 through Thursday, April 23: sophomores
- Friday, April 24 through Friday, May 1: freshmen
- Monday, May 4: non-matriculated undergraduate and graduate students
Certain groups had access to register for classes before April 13. This includes students in departments that participate in Majors’ Reservation, students in the military, students with approval through Student Accessibility Services and fall or winter sport athletes. After receiving the necessary approval, these students could register for classes between Monday, April 6, and Friday, April 10.
How do I know what day I can register?
Undergraduate students register for classes based on how many credits they completed as of the Winter 2026 semester. Credits that are in progress during the current Spring 2026 semester do not count towards a students’ completed credit hours.
These are the undergraduate class levels, determined based on completed credits:
- Freshmen: zero to 23 completed credits
- Sophomores: 24 or more completed credits
- Juniors: 54 or more completed credits
- Seniors: 84 or more completed credits
How many credits can I take?
Students must take at least 12 credits to have full-time student status. Students can register for up to 18 credits, and can get approval from the Office of Registration and Records to take more than 18 credits, depending on their undergraduate class level.
Here are the maximum amount of credits students are allowed to take, broken down by class level:
- Freshmen with zero to 14 completed credits: 18 maximum credits allowed
- Freshmen with 15 to 23 completed credits: 19 maximum credits allowed (must have at least a 3.00 GPA)
- Sophomores: 19 maximum credits allowed (must have at least a 2.75 GPA)
- Juniors: 20 maximum credits allowed (must have at least a 2.50 GPA)
- Seniors with 84 to 98 completed credits: 20 maximum credits allowed (must have at least a 2.00 GPA)
- Seniors with 99 or more completed credits: 21 maximum credits allowed (must have at least a 2.00 GPA)
