Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday and break, SUNY Brockport organizations held their own special Friendsgiving dinner events.

This year’s Friendsgiving events invited all students to enjoy the classic and comforting Thanksgiving favorite dishes with their friends. Friendsgiving also creates a community space for students who may not be able to return home for the holiday.

The Brockport Pride Association held their Friendsgiving event on Nov. 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Union Gallery. All students were invited to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner staples like turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce.

BASC’s (Brockport Auxiliary Services Corporation) also held a Friendsgiving event, their annual celebration returning this year on Nov. 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Harrison and Brockway Express Dining Halls.

Ahead of their special dinner, BASC promoted the importance of friendship at a tabling event in the Seymour Union on Nov. 18. BASC offered free friendship bracelets for students to give to a friend and all the supplies, from sparkly beads to shiny charms, to make their own custom jewelry.

Students also had the opportunity to share what they were feeling thankful for and their favorite Thanksgiving for BASC’s Instagram page.

At BASC’s Friendsgiving event students gathered to enjoy all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes that were on the menu, from turkey and stuffing to potatoes and pie. This year’s dinner also featured green beans, rolls and corn, with whipped cream dolloped pumpkin pie and a full ice cream bar with flavors like vanilla, cookies and cream, pumpkin pie and even more.

WBSU 89.1 The Point, SUNY Brockport’s student-run radio station, also made a special appearance at BASC’s Friendsgiving event, playing the best in new music for students all night long.

Over shared meals and fall decorations, SUNY Brockport’s Friendsgiving events fostered the importance of togetherness and gratitude ahead of the holiday season.
