Brockport’s First Baptist Church on Main Street will serve as a “warming center” this winter when temperatures are below 32 degrees, known as a “code blue” situation.
This is the second year the church has served as shelter for those who need it overnight, and is run by the nonprofit organization Oak Orchard Health.
A code blue was first activated by Monroe County this year on Nov. 6, and the church was open. Since then, there have been 12 nights where the temperatures have dipped below freezing.
Oak Orchard Health has also set up space in the Seymour Library as a daytime warming center.
For updates on when a code blue is declared, visit the warming center’s Facebook page, call the center at 585-340-1355 or call or text 211.
