After four years, Ethan Hawke’s infamous character, “The Grabber,” is back in theaters- just in time for Halloween. The masked killer returns from the dead for the highly anticipated sequel, Black Phone 2, which premiered Oct. 17, 2025.
The film features several familiar faces from the original hit film in 2022, such as Mason Thames reprising his role as Finney, alongside Madeline McGraw returning as his younger sister, Gwen. Another returning actor we see in the sequel is Miguel Mora, however, he is not returning to the sequel to play the same role as before. In the original Black Phone, Mora took on the role of Robin, Finney’s friend and one of the Grabber’s victims. Since we saw Robin pass away in the original film, Mora now appears as Ernesto – Robin’s grieving younger brother.
Ethan Hawke also returns to the cast, delivering another chilling performance as The Grabber. Critics have praised Hawke for embodying this villain role, making the character feel both terrifying and fascinating. The media has taken The Grabber by storm, debating whether he is one of the most haunting villains of the decade. Co-star Mason Thames has also praised Hawkes’ acting to the media, saying, “Ethan has this way of making every scene unpredictable- you never quite know what he’s going to do, and that makes the fear feel real.”
Produced by Blumhouse Productions and directed by Scott Derrickson, Black Phone 2 is set four years after the events of the original movie. This time, Finney finds himself haunted by his abduction and The Grabber. Even though he managed to escape The Grabber in the first film, the trauma still lingers, and the phone is still ringing. We now see Gwen as a target of The Grabber as she is receiving horrifying calls from the iconic black phone in her dreams.
Since its release, Black Phone 2 has quickly found massive box office success, even surpassing the original Black Phone debut. In just under two weeks, Black Phone 2 has become the first Blumhouse Productions film of 2025 to cross $45 million globally.
Black Phone 2 is now playing exclusively in theaters and is expected to arrive at Peacock this winter. Fans will also be able to rent or purchase Black Phone 2 through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Google Play.
