It was a battle between the top two teams in the SUNYAC as Brockport hosted Oswego State. The Lakers ultimately outlasted the Golden Eagles 79-73. The loss drops Brockport to 18-6 on the season and 13-4 in conference play. The result also finalized the seedings for both teams heading into the postseason. Oswego clinched the number one seed while Brockport finds themselves now locked into the number two seed. Brockport forward David Grady III thought it was the little things that cost his team the victory.

“Great teams do all the little things,” Grady said. “We emphasize that stuff. I felt like certain plays tonight we didn’t do it enough. They’re a great team, they handled their business. We just have to learn from this game and come back better next time.”

Oswego jumped in front early on and never relinquished the advantage. The Lakers first half edge ballooned to as large as 15 before Brockport cut the margin down to eight headed to the locker room.

Oswego maintained their edge throughout the second half, never seeing their lead shrink within one possession. The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to as little as four on multiple occasions. Mehki Beckett led the charge in the second half, scoring all 18 of his points in the final twenty minutes. Tony Arnold led all scorers with 27 points on an efficient 11/20 from the field. Arnold was looking forward to the quick turnaround.

“We learn with the wins and losses, it was tough losing tonight but the good thing about college basketball is we got back-to-backs, so we get to bounce back tomorrow,” Arnold said

Devin Green led the Lakers with 18 points and seven rebounds. Green led four double-digit scorers for Oswego. Cartier Bowman scored 17, Jamal Achille added 13 points and Ahkee Anderson scored 11.

Brockport will look to build momentum towards the postseason when they close the regular season hosting Buffalo State on Senior Day.
