SUNY Brockport’s Beta Tau chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, SUNY Brockport’s English Honors Society, is bringing poetry into everyday life at SUNY Brockport by hosting “Poetry at the Port.” Sigma Tau Delta’s “Poetry at the Port” invites students to encounter poetry in unexpected ways by posting pieces for anyone to stop, read and reflect on all around the campus.
By having poetry in shared areas and study places, “Poetry at the Port” encourages the idea that poetry is not just words on a torn page, but rather that is something helps students connect with language and creativity inspiring original expression and the desire to write.
“Poetry at the Port” is led by President Mia Pandža and Literacy Coordinator Cassandra Thibault and chapter Advisor Dr. Sharon Lubkemann Allen. Sigma Tau Delta continues to promote literacy as both an academic and a personal experience. In doing so, “Poetry at the Port” attempts to remind students that poetry is not just something to study — but something to encounter, feel and observe.
To learn more about “Poetry at the Port,” attend the Beta Tau Chapter induction ceremony on Apr.14.
