Commuter students were met with an unwelcome sight when arriving at SUNY Brockport for the first week of classes. Half of Parking Lot N1, across from Hartwell Hall, has been fenced off to make room for construction vehicles, leaving less room for commuter students.
Hartwell Hall is also the site of ongoing construction. With an existing frustration around parking for commuters, this obstruction fuels ongoing issues.
Commuters make up roughly 56 percent of SUNY Brockport’s student body. Senior Cameron Theile is one of the many commuter students who was upset by the new parking difficulties.
“It takes away a ton of parking in the area where most of my classes are, and I have to park all the way in [lot] D1 because of it and hike over here, [which is] highly annoying,” Theile said.
Additional students made posts on YikYak, voicing their displeasure with the parking.

In addition to the limited commuter parking, the recent snowstorm significantly impacted resident parking lots around campus. This past weekend, students were instructed to temporarily move their vehicles so the campus grounds crew could plow the various resident lots. This effort proved to be successful.
SUNY Brockport Transportation took to social media to thank students for their efforts.
