Brockport women’s soccer midfielder Amelia Breton was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week Monday after scoring three goals and tallying six points in two games last week. On Saturday, in the 7-1 win over Elmira, she found the back of the net three times for the hat-trick.
“It definitely means a lot,” Breton said. “I’ve been working hard just getting my technique down on scoring. It is finally coming to show, and it means a lot, just working hard in practice every week.”
Breton is currently second on the team in goals with seven and in points with 14. Her seven goals rank fourth in the Empire 8. She credits showing up for the team when it counts and hard work for her success this season.
“Just showing up whenever I can on the field, especially in the central midfield,” Breton said. “That’s what we’ve been working hard to do. Getting the ball from defense to offense. I think that is trying to be my main objective.”
The Brockport defense has only surrendered three goals this season, but the offense is also flourishing. The offense is averaging 3.2 goals per game, which leads the Empire 8. Breton credits this to the strong connection the offense and defense have with one another.
“We are continuously working hard in practice to find each other,” Breton said. “It shows how strong of a defense we have because they can get the ball to the offense, and they just do what they can with it.
Breton is in her second season with the program. In 2023, she recorded three goals and two assists and was fifth on the team in points with eight. Breton learned a lot about the team in year two.
“I see how good of a team we are,” Breton said. “We show up every day in practice and we are good at facing adversity. This year we’ve been very good with that again as well as last year and we haven’t conceded many goals at the beginning of the season. When we did end up conceding goals and had that loss to Fisher, it shows how hard of a working team we are to get back to where we are and how we can respond positively.”
The team clinched a spot in the Empire 8 tournament and has two regular season games left before playoffs start. Breton knows the team can’t get too ahead of themselves and has to focus on what is in front of them.
“We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves looking at the tournament,” Breton said. “We still have two big games coming up in the regular season. We just have to stay focused on our main goals.”
The Golden Eagles are looking to stay on the winning track as they host the Utica Pioneers for senior day on Saturday at 3 p.m.
