The SUNYAC announced on its website that the winter sports season will not be happening. The conference originally pushed back the start date to Jan. 1, when it cancelled fall sports.
“This was not an easy decision and I empathize with all of our student-athletes across the SUNYAC,” Erik Bitterbaum, the chair of the SUNYAC Presidents said in the release. “However, despite our best efforts to plan for a winter season, our priority must be the health and safety of everyone involved with intercollegiate athletics, and our campuses as a whole.”
This decision means that SUNY Brockport’s basketball teams, ice hockey team, swimming and diving teams and indoor track and field teams will all not be having a 2020-21 season. The men’s basketball team had its 2019-20 season ended prematurely in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
The SUNYAC will make a decision about the fate of the spring sports season at a later date.
