The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles Women’s soccer team played the Oneonta Red Dragons in conference play. The Golden Eagles looked phenomenal on both sides of the pitch, beating the Red Dragons 1-0.
The first half for the Golden Eagles looked identical to how they played their last game against Oswego. The Golden Eagles playing their trademark suffocating defense created opportunities for the offense but much like last game they couldn’t turn shots into points, the Golden Eagles put up 13 shots in just the first half along with four corner kicks.
The second half started out great for Brockport as the women started to tighten up on both ends of the pitch and in the 53rd minute Jaylah Cossin finally finds the back of the net for the Golden Eagles offense to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0. After that goal the defense and offense for Brockport was amplified to 100. By the end of the game the Oneonta offense only put up just four shots compared to Brockport’s 26.
Head Coach for the Brockport Golden Eagles Mike Idland did something a little different this week in preparation to hope it could spark some offensive fire.
“We looked at a little bit of video to remind ourselves of all these fantastic goals that we’ve scored over the season, you know, it had just been a minute since we’d had a game like that,” Idland said. “I think that confidence came through at least in that goal scoring moment.”
Jaylah Cossin who put the Golden Eagles on the board and continued her stellar season sparked the struggling offense.
“It felt amazing. I think it was definitely something our team has been working really hard for like we’ve been showing up in practice we’ve been showing up to the game so just being here it was all worth it.” Cossin said.
Cossin looks to carry this momentum and knows what is key in doing so.
“I think we’re a close-knit team. So, when we’re out there, we’re all trying to communicate we’re all we’re trying to have each other’s backs. We all just connect so well, and the chemistry is so good, so that just keeps the motivation going.” Cossin said.
Brockport improves to 9-2-1 this season with their next game at home against Alfred University with a start time of 4 p.m.
