BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Brockport women’s soccer team defeated Juniata College 1-0 at home to top off a wonderful day as they were joined by the Brockport Soccer Club Girls U10 Team at their Community and Youth Celebration Game.
The lone goal was scored by freshman McKenna Slate late in the first half moving her to three goals this season. Her goal was assisted by Jaylah Cossin who has been a main playmaker for the Golden Eagles as she recorded her sixth assist of the season. Cossin also leads the team in points with a total of 16 to her name.
This marked Brockport’s best start to a season since the 2012 season as they continued their six-game winning streak. Their record currently stands at 6-1.
The day started happily as the starters ran out to center field with The Brockport Soccer Clubs Girls U10 team. The game continued in that fashion as Brockport dominated possession of the ball and played the majority of the game in the Juniata defensive third of the field.
Juniata did put Brockport on the backfoot a couple times, recording eight shots on goal. However, Brockport weathered those short storms and carried out a very good performance defending their goal well. The Golden Eagles recorded 24 shots on goal seeing nearly their entire starting line-up have a shot on the day.
At half-time, the crowd was treated to their second game of the day as a short, small-sided match was held between the Brockport Soccer Club Girls U10 Team. The game was pleasantly entertaining for all the fans but finished 0-0.
With the win, Brockport will look to continue this form into conference play next week as they visit Buffalo State on Wednesday, Sept. 20th at 7 p.m. They then travel to Plattsburgh State on Saturday, Sept. 23rd to face the Cardinals at 1 p.m.
