There is nothing better in sports than playing at home; this has been especially true for the Brockport Field Hockey team this season. They moved to 5-1 at home (7-5 overall) as they rolled through Medaille 5-0 Wednesday night.
Head Coach Krista Archambeau reflected on her team’s home dominance postgame.
“I think we’re just confident on our home surface. We’re able to play for our fans and really have pride playing on our new field,” Archambeau said.
The Golden Eagles dominated across the board statistically with 31 shots, 15 on target and 23 corners. Defensively, they shut down the Mavericks who finished with 0 shots and 0 corners. Four different goal scorers accounted for Brockport’s five goals, led by Paige Thowe with two. Alyssa Fuccillo, Kaitlyn Aitken and Gianna Salerno were the other goal scorers for the Golden Eagles.
After a scoreless first quarter, Fucillo kicked off the scoring just over four minutes into the second quarter. Aitken followed less than a minute later to make it 2-0, and from there the result was never in doubt. Thowe scored her two goals back-to-back within a minute of each other in the third to push Brockport ahead 4-0. Salerno’s rocket goal in the fourth quarter was the cherry on top of this big nonconference victory.
After scoring only four goals during a four-game losing streak the offense has come back to life in the last two wins, netting 14 combined goals. Thowe, who scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season on Wednesday night, said that had been a focus.
“We’ve been working a lot on offense and finishing. We really focused on that today and we were disciplined,” Thowe said.
Thowe spoke with confidence in her team as they head into the end of the campaign looking to make some noise.
“Togetherness and believing in ourselves, because we can do it, we just have to do it together. We just need to be disciplined and focused,” Thowe said.
The Golden Eagles will look to keep their two-game winning streak alive Saturday as they take on Oswego State.
