The Buffalo Bills came out and took care of business on Sunday Afternoon. They were heavily favored by experts heading into the game, and they showed why. It was a brutal 40-0 loss in which the Bills gave Houston no shot to build up anything
A Bills defense that lacked key contributors Jordan Poyer and Taron Johnson in their secondary held Texans rookie quarterback David Mills to only 87 passing yards, 4 interceptions and a Quarterback rating of just 23.4. Cornerback Cam Lewis and Safety Jaquan Johnson filled in for these injuries with Lewis forcing a fumble and Johnson getting an interception.
Linebacker play was key as we saw Tremaine Edmunds and Tyler Matekevich make important interceptions and lay the boom with 3 tackles each.
Cornerback Tre’Davious White had the assignment of covering Texans top wide receiver Brandin Cooks. In 3 games Cooks has already racked up 322 receiving yards, but today Tre’davious was able to hold him to just 47 yards.
On the offensive side of the ball, Josh Allen completed 20 of 29 attempted passes for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns with a Quarterback Rating of 103.8. His one interception came off his first pass of the game where he overthrew a ball into the hands of a Texans defender. While the game was a drop off from his dominate performance against the Washington Football Team, he still made the big plays he needed. His biggest ones being his two touchdown passes to Dawson Knox, alongside a 4 and 1 scramble that went for 15 yards to put the Bills in Texans territory.
Wide Receiver Steffon Diggs came away with 114 receiving yards off 7 receptions, with Emmanuel Sanders having the second most yards with 74 on the day. The rushing attack was led by Running Back Devin Singletary who got 79 yards in 14 carries. The offense in total was extremely deadly on the ground as they got 199 yards on the day and 2 touchdowns.
In total the offense got 450 yards, their only struggle seemed to come in the red zone. Under Josh Allen’s lead they only got 1 touchdown in their 5 trips to the red zone. The Bills Defense made sure this didn’t become an issue today, but against a stouter team this could spell trouble for the team if they can’t convert these opportunities.
But other than that, you won’t find much of anything to complain about for Buffalo. Going into their Sunday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs at 8:30 p.m., they will look to continue this momentum and make a statement in prime-time television against the team that beat them in last year’s AFC Championship game.
