The SUNY Brockport theatre and music studies department is collaborating with the Fine Arts Series for a showcase of the stirring new production from playwright Lauren Gunderson, “Silent Sky”.
“Silent Sky” is a powerful production that will be performed October 2 through October 4, shedding light on the human drive for passion, perseverance and wonder.
“Silent Sky” details the life of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt and the discoveries she made that redefined astronomy in its entirety. Throughout her longstanding career, Leavitt was plagued by the limits placed upon women in science, but persevered to uncover methods of effectively measuring vast astronomical distances, which altered the understanding of both the scale and the nature of the universe.

The production follows Leavitt through her journey at the Harvard Observatory, where she found her passion for discovery among the stars while navigating family, love and the confines that controlled her career as a woman of science.
“Silent Sky” shows will be held in the Black Box Theatre of the Tower Fine Arts center from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are available for the general public for $20, seniors and Brockport faculty, staff and alumni for $15 and students for $9.
