On Monday, Brockport women’s lacrosse midfielder Karaline McCarthy was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and earned a First-Team All-Conference selection. She led the team with 31 assists, 93 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers.
“I think it’s pretty special,” McCarthy said. “It’s cool to have an impact on the team as a freshman. I was glad that I could contribute to the team, especially at a young age. It feels great.”
McCarthy also recorded 34 goals, which was third best on the team, and accumulated 65 points, which was the second highest on the team. She credits her success this season to the offseason training and extra work she put in.
“I think the preparation we put in during the offseason had a lot to do with that,” McCarthy said. “The hours I put in outside of practice were really important. I was constantly playing wall ball and getting extra reps on the turf. The offseason work really helped me get to where I wanted to be.”
Along with McCarthy, five other Golden Eagles earned all-conference selections. Two of those players were seniors Sarah Kilburn and Alayna Foos. Both Foos and Kilburn had a big impact on McCarthy’s first campaign with the Golden Eagles.
“They’re great leaders,” McCarthy said. “Foos and Sarah are on both sides of the ball and I looked up to them. They guided me, and if I ever had questions, I could always go to them. They gave me confidence.”
McCarthy will look to build off her successful 2025 season and is confident that the team will continue it successful end to the season.
“I definitely want to keep building off the season,” McCarthy said. “I think by the end of the season as a team we got to a good place and we just need to bring that into next season. Individually I just want to keep building off of what I started this season.”
McCarthy and the Golden Eagles are looking ahead to the 2026 season.
