On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, SUNY Brockport’s Film as a Social Commentary course (JRB 372), taught by Adjunct Professor Tim Banach, held a special screening of the film “Chasing Chasing Amy,” where students could invite guests to join them in watching the film.
After the film’s conclusion, Director Sav Rodgers participated in a virtual Q&A session, during which students had the chance to ask Rodgers any potential questions.
The film “Chasing Chasing Amy” is a documentary that recounts the experiences of the cast and director in the doc’s predecessor, “Chasing Amy” which had been released 26 years prior, and the emotional impact the original film had on Rodgers’ life.
Rodgers was experiencing his transition as a transgender man over the course of creating and directing “Chasing Chasing Amy,” which led to topics such as LGBTQIA+ representation in films and the accomplishments of the transgender population in Hollywood being discussed during the 30+ minute Q&A.
The screening of the film and a live Q&A proved to be an informative and unique opportunity for those enrolled in the course.
