Brockport Athletics is rallying support once again for its annual Day of Giving, a weeklong fundraising event dedicated to enhancing the college’s athletics programs. With donations fueling equipment upgrades, team travel opportunities and team staff salaries, the event aims to unite alumni, fans and the community in support of the Golden Eagles. Donations are open now until April 8.
Brockport offers 24 athletic programs and has over 825 student-athletes. Money raised will go directly to those teams as well as the Athletic Training department.
Softball head coach Mary Karen Wheat spoke on the importance of the money raised for her program.
“Fundraising is a key element to the success and experience of our student-athletes,” Wheat said. “The growth of our softball program is dependent upon our ability to achieve our fundraising goals which allow us to travel for our spring training, provide new equipment and gear for athletes, enhance their experience and create team bonding opportunities and so much more.”
A majority of money the softball program raises is put towards the team’s annual spring training games, when they travel to Florida for a weeklong trip.
“The student-athlete experience is a special time in our athletes’ lives and can only truly be achieved with your support,” Wheat said.
Member of the women’s soccer team, Madeline McCrosson, has seen the positive effects the Day of Giving money has.
“We worked hard last year to get the word out and fundraise,” McCrosson said. “It’s been crazy to see the growth in our fundraising. Every bit helps us. In the past we’ve used it on apparel and trips that we couldn’t have done without it.”
This year’s Day of Giving will take place over the course of a week. Last year’s event was held in one 24-hour period. Over 1,500 donors participated, for a total of $210,000 donated. To donate this year, visit gobrockport.com or text BPORTSOAR to 71777.
