After 18 years of leading the Brockport baseball program, head coach Justin Beach will shift to administrative duties following the 2025 season. Beach will transition into the role of Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, overseeing the NCAA and Empire 8 conference regulations for Brockport athletics department.
“I have always wanted to have a progression in my career, from being a coach to an administrator at some point,” Beach said. “I didn’t know when that opportunity might be there. There is never a perfect time, of course our team is doing great and still a passion of mine, but there was an opportunity with the departure of our former volleyball coach who did a great job in this position.”
Beach will be filling the role previously held by Steve Pike. He has an undergraduate degree in Physical Education and a graduate degree in Athletic Administration from SUNY Brockport. His educational background aligns with the administrative role he will transition into.
“Anyone would love him to stay for the culture and everything he has built,” Brockport baseball pitcher Zach Eldred said. “But we know he’s making a decision for himself, and his family and we all love and respect him. We look forward to whatever the future entails for himself as well as Brockport baseball.”
Beach was a standout student-athlete in his playing days. After transferring from junior college, he played as a center fielder for the Golden Eagles and captained the team. While pursuing his graduate degree, Beach worked as a graduate assistant with the baseball team, the start of his college coaching career. He served as an assistant coach for two years before becoming interim head coach in 2007, securing a permanent position shortly after. Beach has been serving as the head coach of the baseball team for 18 years.
“I came to Brockport and never left,” Beach said.
He holds the program record for the highest wins as the head coach with 385 career victories. Beach was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year in 2011, 2014 and 2021.
Associate Athletic Director Gil Burgmaster will work closely with Beach in his new role.
“We are thrilled to have him transition into this new role as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance,” Burgmaster said. “His experience, integrity, and passion for Brockport Athletics make him a perfect fit for this position, and we look forward to the positive impact he will continue to have on our department.”
As the head coach, Beach has led his team to two SUNYAC championships, four NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and developed numerous all-conference and All-American players. As Beach transitions into administrative duties, the search for his successor will begin at the end of the season.
