SUNY Brockport’s annual Job and Internship Fair was once again a success, with the event garnering a significant turnout from students on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
The fair encourages students to talk to and engage with professionals in their desired field. Companies were arranged by the school that they aligned with, including the school of Business and Management, Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Education, as well as a section for on-campus jobs.
ESL’s Talent Acquisition Specialist Kalani Morris is a SUNY Brockport Alumna and recruiting Brockport students has shown to pay off in her career.
“I think it’s pretty successful. We have a summer internship that we do at ESL and we’ve seen a high number of people from Brockport that are interested in those positions,” Morris said.
As a student herself, Morris has seen the various opportunities and jobs that are present at the Job Fair.
“Coming from Brockport, I got a chance to see all the great things that Brockport has to offer,” Morris said. “I know that there are so many students that are really, really great so I always want to make sure that I come to Brockport and get a chance to see all of these great students so that they’re able to learn that there’s so many different opportunities and all of these different avenues.”
Paychex is a well-known Rochester-based company. Inside Sales Manager Samantha Toms also recognized the importance of recruiting college students.

“I think getting talent right out of college, from someone who doesn’t necessarily have that sales experience, a lot of times, we’re able to mold them into a successful salesperson,” Toms said. “Whereas someone might come in with experience and it might not naturally transfer to what we’re looking for in our sales department and in our culture. We’d rather have that green talent, someone that is completely fresh. That way we can really mold them and build them to what fits our culture here at Paychex.”
SUNY Brockport Marketing major Brooke Spence is using this fair as an opportunity to grow and network.
“I am kind of new to the whole marketing field, so I wanted to explore options with different businesses and different fields of marketing,” Spence said. “I wanted to get myself out there.”
Many departments already introduce students to aspects of the professional world. However, the Job and Internship fair provides another opportunity for students to experience a professional environment.
“I would say the marketing department is very hands-on with everything, so I’ve already experienced clients and different businesses,” Spence said. “It’s only my first semester really being in my marketing major, so I feel like they definitely pushed me to get my resume together and gain experience.”
While not every student will find a perfect match at the fair, for Spence and many others, it can help students expand their options and introduce them to other possibilities.
“Everyone’s been really, really friendly and it’s helping me figure out where I want to go with my internship that I’m looking for. Even if they’re not specifically a marketing company, they help explain their company,” Spence said.
The Job and Internship Fair offers a great opportunity for students to network with companies and explore their potential options, no matter how far along in their degree program they may be. SUNY Brockport hosts this fair every Spring, with similar career-based events taking place during the fall semesters.
