Brockport women’s basketball came up with a dominant 83-62 win over the Penn State Behrend Lions for head coach Corinne Jones’ 100th career win with the program. The Behrend Lions couldn’t find an answer for junior guard Stephanie Jean-Baptiste who dropped a career-high 33 points.
The Golden Eagles started off fast with freshman Peyton Maneri putting up a floater to take the first points of the game. Brockport was able to maintain this lead throughout the entire match.
The lead grew fast for the Golden Eagles with scores from graduate transfer Kaileigh Hunt and Jean-Baptiste. Hunt finished with 14 points, shooting 6-9 from the field. Brockport’s defense held its own throughout the first quarter, only allowing nine points throughout the ten minutes.
“I just think [Hunt] is a veteran and knows what to do,” Jones said. “She’s super coachable, that’s what we’ve been talking about. Be efficient, take the best shots for us. She’s leading the way.”
Brockport’s strong efforts continued through the second quarter. Senior captains Shannon Blankenship and Anna Lee were able to find success. Both Blankenship and Lee recorded season highs in this matchup with ten and nine points respectively.
The Golden Eagles finished the half up 42-24 against the Lions.
While Penn State Behrend picked up the pace on offence after the halftime break, Jean-Baptiste took the court by storm scoring 14 points throughout the third quarter for the Golden Eagles.
Jean-Baptiste continued to score in the fourth quarter with an additional eight points to close her performance. The Golden Eagles finished the battle with a commanding 83-62 win over the Lions to remain undefeated at the Vlog.
“Just letting the ball come to me, not trying to work so hard to get my own points but letting my teammates feed me and just making my shots,” Jean-Baptiste said.
The Golden Eagles improve their record to 5-1 as they will travel to RIT on Dec. 3 with tipoff slated for 6 p.m.
