Alenna Williamson was named Empire 8 Player of the Week Monday for her performances in Brockport volleyball’s three matches this past week. The junior had a career-game in Brockport’s victory over Utica University, posting a career-high 25 kills.
“I’m just very happy,” Williamson said. “It was a really good week, and I was glad that I could do that, but I also couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”
The Golden Eagles went 3-0 this week, and their overall record improves to 13-6.
In their victory over Geneseo on Oct. 16, Williamson registered 11 kills and five blocks, both team leading stats. Brockport would win in five sets, edging out the Knights 3-2.
Brockport was back playing on their home court Friday, taking on Utica. Williamson dominated from start to finish, setting a new career-high in kills, with 25. Her .420 percent hitting percentage and team-leading three blocks were also crucial in Brockport’s 3-1 victory over the Pioneers.
“My coaches and teammates are always in my corner,” Williamson said. “I know they trust me which makes me feel confident in myself to get the job done. My teammates are also my biggest hype and help when I’m struggling.”
In another Empire 8 conference matchup Saturday, the Golden Eagles swept SUNY Poly, needing only three sets to finish the game versus the visiting Wildcats. Williamson again led the team in blocks with 17; she also added four blocks and an assist.
In her third year, Williamson has been dominant all season. She currently leads the team in kills for the season, with 203. Her 47 blocks this year are good for second. In Empire 8 standings, Williamson is tenth in kills and is seventh in hitting percentage, at .243 percent.
“My goal is just to continue doing the best I can,” Williamson said. “The team is just trying to go as far as we can and have a good season.”
The Golden Eagles have four conference matchups left before the Empire 8 tournament starts Nov. 12. They will be back at home Oct. 25 to take on Alfred University in another conference matchup. Gametime is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
