In Brockport’s 192.050-187.550 win over Ithaca on Sunday, gymnast Lienna Kay added to her list of accomplishments. Kay posted a 9.875 score on the balance beam, which broke the program record of 9.825 previously set by teammate Natalie Galioto last season.

Kay is using this as a stepping stone to try and do even better in the future.

“It’s just another accomplishment for myself,” Kay said. “It’s something I can build off and gave me confidence for the future. It is something to keep working at and even try and beat that.”

Kay’s teammate Galioto has had a big impact on her and she appreciates the support given to her and the team by Galioto.

“She’s such a positive influence,” Kay said. “Everybody loves Nat. She is just so generous. She is so supportive of everyone. She was excited for me just beating her record. She is super supportive, super positive and is always willing to cheer me on.”

Brockport also posted a team score of 48.325 on the balance beam, which is one of the best performances in program history. Kay credits gymnastics head coach René Lyst for the team’s success on the beam.

“At practice, she’ll line us up,” Kay said. “And we’ll do it again and again. Routine after routine. And we’ll just try to get 1% better every day.”

The upperclassmen on the team have played a pivotal role in the achievements that have been accomplished by Kay this season.

“They influence me every day,” Kay said. “They’re just the most positive people I know, and they don’t care that I’m a freshman. They’re still going to treat me like I’m one of them and they’re going to push me every day. They’re going to help me better myself and keep me accountable. They cheer me up when I am down and they’re always cheering me on.

The Golden Eagles are currently 13-1 on the season and will look to extend their winning streak at their home Tri-Meet against Ursinus College and Springfield College this Sunday, Feb. 25.
