The Brockport Golden Eagles hosted their final home game of the regular season against the Nazareth Golden Flyers. The Golden Eagles were absolutely on fire as they were led by Alexis Sison and Jordan Thompson. Following her SUNYAC Athlete of the Week honor Thompson racked up 14 kills and Sison added nine kills with three blocks against the Golden Flyers.
Set one saw the Golden Eagles feel out the Golden Flyers but thrive off their communication and setting up their kills. Brockport found great efficiency in hitting, hitting the ball at nearly 50% en route to a 25-17 set win.
The third and final set saw a more competitive Nazareth squad as the Golden Flyers and the Golden Eagles traded points back and forth. Ultimately the Golden Flyers hitting errors caught up to them and they fell short of sending the game to a fourth set losing 25-19. Sison and Emma Schumaker put the game on ice for Brockport with Schumaker tallying four kills and Sison three kills.
Head volleyball coach Jim Clar felt his team fed off Thompson and Sison.
“They’re great players,” Clar said. “So of course, you know, when they’re playing well, we’re doing well and we’re winning games.”
Sison feels her team is start clicking in all facets of the game.
“I think it’s like a big confidence boost, everybody who was on the court and off the court that we can trust our team a little more, we’ve been trying so many different lineups,” Sison said. “Today we finally felt a real lineup that we could possibly put out there this weekend. We feel all the trust from everybody on the court.”
Thompson hopes her team can ride the momentum into the postseason.
“We’re hoping to bring all of that momentum coming into two weeks for the playoffs, it should be really fun,” Thompson said. “We got one more week of conference play, and that really can put us up in the rankings, which would really help.”
The Golden Eagles improved to 13-10 being 5-2 in conference play with the win. They’ll look to extend their four-game winning streak into their next game at Oswego on Oct. 27 with a start time of 6 p.m.
