Success for Brockport field hockey just keeps coming. On Monday, Brockport’s Quinn Guy and Mary Young were named SUNYAC’s Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week. These awards come after Brockport started the season with a 6-0 record, their best start in program history.

Guy has started every game for the Golden Eagles, registering seven goals and two assists on the season. Four of those came from this week alone, with a hat trick versus Utica University and one goal versus Wells College. Both of these games were dominant wins for Brockport.

She points to the goals she set for herself at the beginning of the season as a key to her success.

“Every year we choose a goal for the season and mine this year was to control the controllables. By keeping that in mind it has held me accountable for my attitude, and effort and pushes me to play for my teammates rather than individually,” Guy said.

Young keeps the Defensive Athlete of the Week in Brockport for the second straight week, following teammate Ella Buchanan. Young has also started every game this season, playing all 60 minutes against both Utica and Wells. Young leads a strong defense, which in two games has allowed two shots on goal, with six shots total, and has only conceded one goal.

Young is proud of her team but also excited looking into the future.

“It feels really good to start the season 6-0. We’re seeing all of our hard work start to pay off. Although we’re undefeated we are staying humble and hungry in sight of SUNYAC play coming this weekend,” Young said.

After a 2-0 defeat against Ithaca College in a nonleague matchup, Brockport will look to bounce back. They open SUNYAC play versus New Paltz at 11 a.m. at home on Saturday.
