The men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams finished third and second respectively in the SUNYAC Championships this past weekend, Feb. 24 and 25.
The women’s team fell short of Geneseo’s 275.5 points with 130.5 points, earning them second place. While the team did not take home the gold, there were many Golden Eagles that finished at the top of their individual events.
Mia Montgomery took first place as she crossed the line at 7.94 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
Jennifer Metz set a new personal record this weekend. With a difference of nine one hundreths of a second between Metz and the runner behind her, Metz took second place and brought home the silver medal for the 800 after clocking a time of 2:17.14. Also, she now holds the third fastest time in school history.
Setting a personal record and adding herself to the history books Metz’s focus is on staying prepared for whats ahead.
“What pushes me to get up and keep doing it over and over is because I’m not just doing it for myself,” Metz said. “I tell everyone that you create your own outcomes, and it all starts with what you tell yourself. Once you get your mind right, you don’t feel drained at the end of the season, you keep wanting more. I know there is a lot more potential for myself, and I really want to find that while I am still at Brockport.”
The 4×400 relay team of Clara Sensini, Courtney Bostic, Metz and Sarah Levine earned silver this weekend finishing the race at 4:00.51.
Levine also ran the 400.She crossed the line at 59.27, earning her a bronze medal.
Sarah Crockett left the weekend with two gold medals after taking first place in shot put with a throw of 13.34 meters, and first place in weight throw after throwing 17.18 meters.
Sarah Killip cleared 1.57 meters in the high jump, placing her second and bringing home another silver medal for the Green and Gold.
The men’s team fell short to Geneseo and Cortland, taking third place overall with a total of 106.5 points to Cortland’s 155.5 points and Geneseo’s 184 points.
Similarly to the women’s team, there were many men that finished top three in their events.
Kelly Brown wore the gold medal after taking first place in the 60 meter dash, clocking a time of 6.97.
Jonathon Zavala not only finished second, but he also set a new school record in the mile, crossing the line at 4:09.34.
Alex Rood finished in first place for the shot put with a throw of 15.87. Finishing in third place, closely behind Rood, Jason Marincic threw 14.61.
Josh Jeziorski earned a silver medal in the long jump after landing at 7.09.
Athletes that have qualified will travel to New York City to compete in the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Indoor Championships next weekend, March 3 and 4.
