The Brockport men’s indoor track and field team posted a strong showing hosting the Brockport Multi & Invitational. The Golden Eagles racked up 110 points to finish second place amongst 19 teams.
Leading the way for Brockport was the 20 points earned in the mile. Sean Killip took first place posting a time of 4:23.66. Jared Smith clocked in just behind at 4:24.51, good for second place. JJ Montemaro also earned points with a 4:34.88 seventh place finish.
Dustin Meyer put forth another big-time effort in the pole fault, clearing 5.01 meters. Meyer finished comfortably in first place at the meet to earn 10 big points. The mark was also good for the fourth best nationally this season. Meyer also became just the second ever to clear 5.0 meters in Brockport indoor history, joining Brockport Hall of Famer Zach Ferrara.
Thomas Kressley ran a 2:31.72 1000-meter to take the victory and earn 10 points. Dillon VanDemortel took second place with a time of 2:34.51, earning eight points.
Alex Rood posted a second-place finish in the shot put with a 15.18. Also earning points for the Golden Eagles were Jason Marinic who finished third with a 14.32 and Matthew Muscolo with a 13.90, good for a sixth-place finish.
The team also snatched up 10 points by winning the distance medley relay. The quartet of Montemaro, Kressley, Michael McGown, and Daniel Casey finished with a time of 10:48.61, over 15 seconds ahead of second place.
Jonathan Zavala and Nick Markle posted second and fourth place finishes in the 800-meter to secure 13 points for the Golden Eagles. Zavala finished with a time of 1:56.04 while Markle ran 1:58.62
Brockport will be splitting the team next weekend between two different meets. One group will head to Boston University for the David Hemery Invitational on Feb. 10 and 11. The remaining team members will be at Susquehanna University Feb. 10 for the River Hawk Friday Invitational.
