The Brockport Women’s Tennis team lost their first home match Tuesday evening 7-2 to Alfred University. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-4 overall in the season after the nonconference loss.
The Golden Eagles managed one win in doubles and one in singles. In doubles it was the duo of Sophie Langdon and Emma Lissow who were victorious by a set score of 8-5. In singles, Shannon Aubin earned a come from behind win. After losing set one 7-5, Aubin won set two 7-5, ultimately winning the third set tiebreaker 10-5.
After Alfred University captured the first two doubles matches of the day, lightning struck nearby, leading to a temporary delay. After a little over an hour , the teams were able to return to the courts to finish the match. This took both teams slightly off rhythm, as each team had to warm up again, leading to a longer match overall.
As game resumed, Brockport won the third doubles match, and the remaining players began singles play. Four of the six singles matches went to a third and deciding set, but the unbeaten Saxons ultimately pulled through in five of the six matchups.
Brockport will head out later this week to Fredonia for a SUNYAC conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 17.
