Brockport, NY- SUNY Brockport’s women’s volleyball team went 2-for-3 this weekend at the Brockport Invitational, a strong showing for the women’s team who is currently 5-3, during the beginning of their season. The Golden Eagles defeated William Smith College and the University of Rochester before falling to Hamilton College in their final game.
Senior Jordan Thompson Friday night against William Smith with 31 points, 22 kills, 14 digs, seven aces and four blocks in a match that went all five sets. After dropping the first two sets, the team returned to win 3-2. Saturday included great performances by both Andrea Coyle, who had the second most kills for the team with 15, and Madalyn Bowen, who led the defense at 22 digs.
Setter Kerri McHale managed some impressive numbers this week. She achieved her 2,000 assist mark during the beginning of the second set against the University of Rochester, which the Eagles beat 3-1. She also added 51 sets to her record over the two games on Saturday, putting her 73 sets shy of overtaking seventh place in the program’s set assists.
However, Brockport couldn’t complete the sweep, losing 3-0 to Hamilton College during the last game on Saturday. While they weren’t able to win the last match, Freshman Alexis Sison was able to get ten kills against the Continentals.
The Golden Eagles move on to play against RIT tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 14, later participating in the Thiel Tournament, from September 16-17.
