In an email, SUNY Brockport President Heidi Macpherson announced that Provost Katy Heyning is set to retire at the end of the semester.
Heyning began working at the college in July 2018, and leads the academic affairs. Part of her legacy are initiatives like Academic Master Planning, preparing for the Middle States visit, and the SUNY Comprehensive PRODiG fellowship program.
President Macpherson said she is forever thankful for Heyning’s good work and wise counsel.
Heyning said in a statement:
“I wish to thank everyone for their support these past few months as I have struggled with some ongoing health concerns. Many people have stepped up, filled in and assisted in numerous ways to ensure our work did not stop. This has made it possible for me to focus on my healing, and I have appreciated this support more than I can express. However, I have now made the very difficult decision to leave my position and retire this summer. I have truly enjoyed my time as your provost. Thank you for helping me grow and learn, challenging me, and for always pushing me to think deeply about the needs of our students, faculty, and staff. Thank you for letting me try new things and helping me learn from my mistakes. Most importantly, thank you for being my inspiration.”
An interim provost will lead Academic Affairs starting this summer.
