Whether it was the first radio brought to the United States in 1902 or the first television system in 1927, sociologists say there was always fear that surrounds each new technology.

Facing food insecurity

In 2023, 13.5% of U.S. households, around 18 million households, experienced food insecurity. In Monroe County, the rate of food insecurity among families has surged from just 13% in 2021 to 30% in 2024, affecting 225,610 individuals.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is on the second Monday of October each year, and this year SUNY Brockport has placed a special emphasis on Indigenous history, experiences and voices. SUNY Brockport sits on land that once belonged to the Onöndowa'ga Nation, or Seneca, so the events held on October 17 were meant to meaningfully address this fact.

On October 17 in the Seymour Union Ballroom, Damian Webster of the Tonawanda, Seneca, Turtle Clan and Program Director for Honöta:önih Henodeyësdahgwa’ on the Tonawanda Seneca Nation, described his experience growing up on the reservation and what Indigenous Peoples' Day means to him.

The music and energy in the campus mall on the night of Sept. 20 lifted spirits and invited people to the Alpha Phi Alpha Yard Show, an event hosted by the Rho Alpha chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. This exhibition of Greek pride was meant to showcase the talents and sister- and brotherhood of various Divine Nine organizations.

Things Transfigured: The passing of time

From August 29 through October 6 the Tower Fine Arts Center Gallery hosted a brilliant exhibition titled Things Transfigured. In Things Transfigured, artist Allen Topolski explores themes of obsolescence and incompletion through his large-scale prints, depicting the inner workings of tools, towering sculptures of discarded alarm clocks, and once beautiful but now nonfunctional appliances.
