The Brockport Golden Eagles dominated Saturday, playing Elmira in an Empire 8 conference matchup. Brockport was strong throughout the game and came out with a 3-0 win.
In the first set Elmira scored first, but the Golden Eagles quickly won that point back after an Alenna Williamson kill. Going back and forth, the Golden Eagles were able to break through midway through the first set, going on a 10-1 run. The Golden Eagles were able to maintain control and win the set 25-14.
Throughout the second set the Golden Eagles dominated, with Alexis Sison and Williamson leading the team. Both Sison and Williamson had nine kills in the game. The Golden Eagles went up 2-0 after winning the second set 25-11.
During the third set Brockport had a rough start, and Elmira was in the lead. Shortly into this last set Brockport was able to gain back their momentum.
“Everybody pulled through and I’m happy with that,” Williamson said. “We started playing to our strengths towards the end, it just took a little bit to get going.”
Both teams were working during the final set, leading to a close final score of 28-26, with Brockport coming out on top. Elsie Logan led the team with 19 digs, followed by Sison, who had eight and Grace Ippoliti who had six. Alyssa Bruno was also crucial to Brockport’s win, totaling three kills and five blocks. Under pressure through the whole game, Bruno found open spots on the court and executed her opportunities.
“Staying disciplined was key to our victory today,” Sison said. “We stayed steady and focused on ourselves and not what the other side of the court was doing.”
With this victory, the Golden Eagles move to a 10-6 record overall and are 3-1 in the conference. They will be on the road for their next game against Geneseo on Wednesday.
