The men’s soccer team faced off against Russell Sage for their first home game of the season. The team lost their first conference game 2-0 and now sit at 1-3-1 overall.
Despite not finding the back of the net, Brockport was not shy in the first half with eight shots on goal (SOG). Sage, in only two attempts, went one for two in the first 45 minutes of play. Dimitri Gogas opened the scoring midway through the first half, giving Sage a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Golden Eagles did not let the first half faze them by starting with a shot attempt just three minutes into the second half. The team continued to capitalize on different opportunities they had, but Sage goalie Maximilian Bertmann did not let any shot go by.
The Gators found the back of the net halfway through the second half increasing the lead to two. Brockport took one final chance with a corner kick from junior forward Peter Tinaj in the final 20 seconds of play, but they could not find success.
However, Brockport was at a disadvantage. In their last game against Ithaca, Russ Domm received a red card, suspending him for two games. Domm leads the team in SOG % at 58.3%, individual points (4) and goals (2). His absence on the field was felt this game, but the Green and Gold are focused on what’s ahead.
Brockport will face off against Buffalo State at home at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.
