The SUNY Brockport Bookstore will be undergoing a transformation at the conclusion of this semester. The bookstore will be switching service providers from Barnes and Noble to eCampus beginning this summer.
The switch in providers comes after the University’s contract with Barnes and Noble expires this year. Students will now place their course material orders on the SUNY Brockport Online Bookstore which will be run by eCampus.
Assistant Executive Director of BASC (Brockport Auxilary Service Corporation) Anna Hintz detailed how the transition came to be.
“With the Barnes & Noble contract set to expire in 2025, BASC conducted a Request for Proposal process last summer,” Hintz said. “After a thorough review of all proposals, eCampus.com was selected as the service provider. As a result of this change in providers, the current bookstore will close at the end of the spring semester after Commencement. It is anticipated that the store will remain closed for a few weeks to enable the transition. Then, it will reopen in June as a spirit shop under new management.”
Under the new service provider, course materials will no longer be sold in the bookstore on campus.
“The eCampus.com bookstore model is focused on maximizing efficiencies in order to offer course materials at the best price for students,” Hintz said. “Under their model, course materials are sourced centrally at their headquarters in Kentucky and then shipped for free for in-store pickup or to an off-campus location.”
The transition will include the bookstore’s conversion to a spirit shop at the end of the semester and it’s reopening in June.
“BASC’s goal is to have every SUNY Brockport student showcasing their school pride with spirit wear every day,” Hintz said. “That goal was shared with eCampus and they’re committed to providing a variety of apparel and merchandise that not only excites students, but is also available at different price points.”
Some students were initially surprised at the news of a switch but didn’t find any cause for concern, as the process of buying course materials will remain mostly the same for the majority of students. The ability for students to purchase items online and then pick up their order in the store will not change.
This sentiment rings true for SUNY Brockport Junior Nico Badagliacca.
“I did notice [the change in providers] but I didn’t think much of it to be honest,” Badagliacca said. “I never bought books directly from the store except for a code once; I always ordered online and picked them up in the store.”
Resources are available to students to work out any potential future issues as the new eCampus provider takes over.
“Customer service is very important to eCampus.com,” Hintz said. “There are a number of resources available at the SUNY Brockport Online Bookstore under the Help Desk and various ways to contact the store, including online chat, email, and phone.”
The new online bookstore is now open under eCampus management for future semesters.
“The SUNY Brockport Online Bookstore is currently open and accepting course material orders for Summer and Fall 2025,” Hintz said. “Once registered, students may place their orders at brockport.ecampus.com. It is important to note that any students with textbook rentals for the spring semester should return them to the current store by May 16, 2025, as there will not be an opportunity to return them to Barnes & Noble after this date.”
