Brockport volleyball played a tight game Friday night against the Utica Pioneers winning 3-1. This game puts the Golden Eagles on a four-game winning streak.
Brockport was in control of the first set with Alenna Williamson making the first kill of the night. They quickly took the lead 1-0, ending the set 25-12. The Pioneers fought in the second set, going head-to-head with Brockport. Utica took the lead, winning the set 25-21 and tying the game 1-1.
“We use each other as a team to handle moments of pressure, we calm each other down,” defensive specialist Gianna Felipe said.
Going into the third set the Golden Eagles were determined to regain the lead. In a back-and-forth set, Williamson executed eight kills with Alexis Sison right behind with five. Williamson set a single-game career-high with 25 kills with a .420 hitting percentage.
“I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Williamson said. “My setters did amazing and I’m just happy that they trusted me.”
Brockport finished the set 27-25, fighting hard to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set was another close battle, but the Golden Eagles were able to close it out, winning 25-22.
“Finishing tight sets was very crucial in tonight’s game,” head coach Jim Clar said. “The way we played at the end of the game, finishing sets when we were down in the third set, we were tight in the fourth set.”
Behind Williamson, Sison was second on the team with 10 kills, followed by Lauren Emke with seven and six by Alyssa Bruno. Kaitlyn Jewett led with 32 assists and Lauryn Forand had 19.
The Golden Eagles are now 5-1 in conference play and will host SUNY Poly Saturday at 1 p.m. on their home court.
