Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Monroe Community College (MCC) campus that SUNY Brockport will receive $10 million in funding, along with tens of millions of funds for other New York public higher education institutions.
In addition, Hochul announced MCC will get $13.8 million, SUNY Geneseo will get $29 million and the Finger Lakes Community College will get $2.5 million. $200 million will also go to workplace development centers in Western New York and $50 million will go towards fighting poverty in the Finger Lakes region.
“That’s the energy we need to bring to childhood poverty, at least in these zip codes. We’ll start there,” Hochul said. “Let’s give people hope. Across Upstate New York, we’re dedicating $50 million dollars, $25 million right to Rochester.”
This announcement comes just one year after SUNY Brockport announced its $10 million budget gap that it aimed to eliminate by 2026-7. As of now, the college has not yet announced what it plans to do with this new funding that would offset its budget gap.
