Brockport shutout Nazareth 1-0 to improve to 8-0-3 and 6-0 in conference play, first in the Empire 8.
The Brockport Golden Eagles Women’s Soccer team won 1-0 over the Nazareth Golden Flyers in an Empire 8 matchup. Last year, the Golden Flyers defeated Brockport in the Empire 8 semi-finals on penalty kicks. Junior midfielder Jordan Chizuk led the way for the Golden Eagles netting the lone goal.
“This was our toughest test so far in league play,” Brockport Head Coach Mike Idland said. “We were resilient all game, whenever they had us under pressure we responded well and we had good quality going forward.”
Chizuk has three goals on the season now, all coming in conference games.
“Conference games are always a bit grittier,” Chizuk said. “Today there was some revenge in play, and I just wanted it more.”
The Golden Eagles came out of the gates owning possession and playing the game in their third of the field. It was at the nine-minute mark when Chizuk scored off a corner kick from senior Caitlin Nelson.
“We put a lot of practice into set pieces because we think set pieces win games,” Chizuk said. “On the goal, one of my teammates [Megan Gerber] said, ‘Don’t forget about the win,’ so I took a few steps back and next thing I knew the ball was coming for my head and I put it in.”
Brockport ended the half with one shot as Nazareth had four. Golden Eagles goalkeeper Emily McCane had two saves in the half.
Moving to the second half, the Golden Flyers had the majority of chances, but senior keeper Madeline McCrosson stopped both shots on net to keep it a 1-0 game. The Golden Eagles had three shots on net stopped by Katriana Walls.
The Golden Eagles improved to 8-0-3 on the season and 6-0 in conference play, placing Brockport first in the E8. Brockport travels to St. John Fisher for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 11th as the Golden Eagles continue Empire 8 action.
