The Brockport Golden Eagles lost 1-0 v. Oswego St. to fall to 4-3 on the season.
The Brockport Golden Eagles fell to the visiting Oswego State Lakers 1-0 in a non-conference matchup. The match was a defensive showdown dominated by stellar play from both goalkeepers.
In the first half, each team recorded only one shot, with senior Katelynn Banning making one of her four saves on the day for Brockport. Also in the first half, the two teams combined for three penalty corners but did not generate any opportunities.
Coming out of the break, each team’s defense held its own as both the Golden Eagles and Lakers were only able to generate one opportunity apiece in the third quarter. For the Golden Eagles, it was sophomore Cassidy Pado who created the opportunity, which was saved by sophomore Sam Krautheim for the Lakers. Pado led the way for the Golden Eagles with three total shots.
The fourth quarter saw the only goal of the contest less than a minute into the period, as junior Natalie Shields scored for Oswego off an assist from junior Meg Kuebler, which resulted from a scramble in front of the cage.
Throughout the rest of the period, each team created opportunities to no avail. Down 1-0, Brockport continued to press until the final horn, with six of its eight shots coming in the fourth. Among those with chances at goal for the Golden Eagles were sophomore Allison Greene and first-year Emily Nestor.
For the Lakers, Krautheim made three of her four saves on the day in the fourth, as she, along with the rest of the Laker defense, kept the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard.
Despite the shutout, there were certainly positives Brockport head coach Krista Archambeau will look to build upon going forward for the Golden Eagles.
“Oswego’s defense held us really strong, but we definitely had looks, and we were possessing the ball a lot better than we’ve been,” Archambeau said, whose team did outshoot the Lakers 8-7.
“We’re doing great in practice, just continuing it and pushing it out onto the field,” Greene said, echoing the same optimism for her team going forward despite the loss.
For the Golden Eagles, Pado led the way for Brockport with three shots. Greene recorded two, while Nestor, along with sophomore Terralyn McLaughlin and first-year Elise Brady, all had one shot on the day.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles fell to 4-3 and look ahead to Saturday Sept. 27th, as Brockport travels to RPI. Pushback is scheduled for 2 p.m.
