The Brockport Women's Soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw in non-conference action hosting Fredonia.
The Brockport Golden Eagles Women’s Soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with the Fredonia Blue Devils at home. That marks Brockport’s sixth shutout of the season in just seven games.
“I thought we created tons of really good chances,” Brockport head coach Mike Idland said. “Sometimes you have games where it doesn’t go in, but I was happy with what we brought to the field.”
The Golden Eagles dominated most of the game, creating 10 shots with seven on net in the first half as Fredonia goalkeeper Abby Szymkowiak stopped all seven. Junior goalkeeper Karissa Champion started in net for the Golden Eagles and recorded two saves.
Moving to the second half, the Blue Devils only had one shot on net, which sophomore keeper Cameryn Childs stopped.
“As a defense, we focus on the simple plays,” senior defender Lyndsey Miller said. “If you don’t make the simple play, it creates opportunities for their forwards to give you a scare. So, we really focus on being clean the first time and getting it out of the back.”
The Golden Eagles’ offense had six shots on net, all saved by Szymkowiak once again. Szymkowiak finished with 13 saves in the game.
Brockport was led by McKenna Slate who had four shots on net. Lucy Crounse and Diane Lange each ended with two shots on frame. Amelia Breton, Jordan Chizuk, Lena Turaj, Caitlin Nelson and Megan Gerber all had shots on target in the draw as well.
“We have a couple of days to practice and get work done,” Miller said. “I think today was a good tie, but we want to score goals and we’re hungry to score and we will show that on Saturday.”
Brockport outshot Fredonia 21-9 as the Golden Eagles move to 4-0-3 on the season. The Golden Eagles travel to Hartwick for a noon kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 27th in Empire 8 action.
