The SUNY Brockport community is grieving the loss of sophomore Miller Mietus, an English Adolescence Education major, who passed away this week.

Mietus, 20, was a native of Penfield, New York and lived in Benedict Hall, where he worked as a Night Desk Attendant. He was also an active member of the Concert Band and was known by many for his love for video games.
“He was known as someone who was incredibly friendly and kind-hearted with a wonderful sense of humor,” a university wide email stated. “He will be greatly missed.”
His mother, Susan Mietus, shared a message in a Facebook group for SUNY Brockport parents, remembering her son.
“He was a sophomore and an amazing person, friendly to everyone,” Susan Mietus wrote. “It feels like a bad dream. His dad and I are beyond crushed.”
This news follows an alert on May 7, notifying students that emergency personnel were responding to a serious individual health matter in Benedict Hall.
A vigil in memory of Miller Mietus will be held at 7 pm on May 8 in the main lounge of Seymour Union to give the campus an opportunity to grieve. Counseling services will be available at the vigil and all are encouraged to come together.
Students seeking support are encouraged to contact the Hazen Health Center at (585-395-2414) or by walk-in.
